Brazilian composer, guitarist SERGIO BRANDAO, brings a refreshing picture of Rio de Janeiro through the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim — the father of the bossa-nova movement and composer of The Girl from Ipanema, How Insensitive and Corcovado — to name a few— among the most recorded tunes ever.

The painting is, in fact, a nature lover, Jobim himself, with his earthy and lively melodies, infused with Brazilian rhythms and spirit, however ‘cool’ and jazz influenced in its harmony and, occasionally, in character. Yet, Jobim’s musical foundations were deep, and his keenness for Chopin, Debussy and Stravinksky may also be felt in a number of his works and collaborations.

Sergio Brandão and his ensemble “Manga-Rosa” have been in the core of the Boston music scene since the early nineties. With three special guests tonight, Speranza Spalding, Greg Hopkins, and Alexei Tsigonov, Brandão’s arrangements for this multi-talented ensemble will only make justice to the incredible music of Tom Jobim.

* In memory of A.C.Jobim (Jan. 25, 1927 – Dec. 8, 1994) who would have been 80 this Jan. 25, 2007.
