Klezwoods is an amalgam of strings, horns and percussion that melds the spirit of traditional klezmer and balkan music with modern grooves, improvisation, and melodies. Formed in 2007 for a special "Klezmer Christmas" event at Atwoods Tavern, they had an interesting beginning to say the least! Bandleader Joe Kessler put together a group of stellar musicians from the klezmer, balkan, pop and jazz scenes in the Boston area for the performance. Needless to say, the music was a great success and since that special night Klezwoods has played all over the northeast and the world.
September 5th celebrates the CD release of 30th Meridian: From Cairo to St. Petersburg with Love The sophomore release of Klezwoods is a more refined take on the traditional jams that first brought the group into formation. It represents a journey up the 30th Meridian, through the bustling markets of North Africa, the doner kebab stands in Turkey and the crisp mornings of St. Petersburg. The album will be featuring original compositions by Sam Dechenne (trumpet), Tev Stevig (guitar) and Greg Loughman (bass) as well as new takes on the traditional music that made this ensemble what it is today.
For one night only, Klezwoods will be selling the new album for $5 to anyone who buys advance tickets! Come join the adventure!
