Nando Michelin & Sissy Castrogiovanni Double CD release celebration

Nando Michelin and Sissy Castrogiovanni join forces to celebrate both Nando's CD "Reencontro" featuring Esperanza Spalding, being released as a special edition in Japan, and Sissy’s debut CD release "Intra lu munnu."

REENCONTRO, originally released in 2009, features Esperanza Spalding, Richie Barshay, Leala Cyr, and the debut of Tiago Michelin current drummer of Nando’s band. This year "Reencontro" is released in an exclusive Japanese new edition.
"INTRA LU MUNNU" - is the name of Sissy’s first work as solo artist, entirely signed under her name as singer and composer. Mediterranean/ Sicilian World Music.
Jazz mixed with Sicilian traditional folk music and other Mediterranean influences.

Sicilian singer/composer, SISSY CASTROGIOVANNI with her powerful and warm voice has a unique and soulful sound created from the mixture between her Mediterranean and Sicilian root, jazz harmonies, classical and African music all combined with beautiful melodies in Sicilian dialect.

Sissy was born in Sicily (Italy) into a musical family and started singing and composing on piano at the age of five. Starting to develop a wide variety of musical styles, from jazz to blues, to soul and funk, being all the time as well exposed to Sicilian traditional folk music.

She continues her studies until the age of twenty as a self-taught musician. In 2005 she starts to collaborate with some of the best musicians in the jazz Italian scene, and some years later she receives a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music where she graduated specializing in Jazz Composition and Mediterranean Studies.
In 2011 she’s invited to be part of the Mediterranean Music Institute (Valencia-Spain) awarded as full scholarship.

Sissy had the opportunity to collaborate with artists such as Jack DeJohnette, Patrice Rushen, 10 time Grammy award-winning Bobby McFerrin – 7 time Latin Grammy award-winning Javier Limon, among others.

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Nando came to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. His discography includes "Facing south" "Common grounds" for Brownstone, "Art" "Chants" "Live at the AJC" and "When Einstein dreams" for Double Time , "Duende" featuring Esperanza Spalding, for Fresh Sound, and "Reencontro" also with Spalding, independently.His last CD, “Como Arboles” features the voice of Sofia Rei, and it’s a collection of original songs written to poems by the great Uruguayan poet Mario Benedetti.

The duo Ragazzi-Michelin performed at the Wang Center and Kimmel ctr for the Arts among other places. As a producer, he also recorded the awarded "Amores torcidos" and "The other side" with Katie Viqueira, "Ave rara" with Teresa Ines. Nando is featured also in "Mind motions" , "South american Suite" ,"Timeline" and “Departure” by Felipe Salles. As a sideman, he performed with John Pattitucci, Eddie Gomez, Jerry Bergonzi, Randy Brecker, Jeff Ballard, Anat Cohen, George Garzone, Antonio Sanchez, Chico Pinheiro, and MPB icons, Jair Rodrigues, Celso Adolfo, Jamelao, Lo Borges, Geraldo Azevedo, Flavio Venturini, as well as Bossa Nova great Maucha Adnet.

Nando is a very active educator, Assistant Professor for the Piano Department at Berklee College of Music, Tufts University, and Longy Music School, and having lectured in Barcelona, Montevideo, Sao Paulo, Barquisimeto and around the US.
