| Kendrick Oliver & The New Life Jazz Orchestra |
After touring up and down the eastcoast over the past several months, this 19-piece group of young, hard-swinging cats returns to the Regattabar in full blast! Adding to their usual infectious mix of head-bobbin', foot-stompin' basie-style arrangements, expect an extra dose of energy and essence as this vibrant group incorporates arrangements by late greats, Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton into the evening's experience.
On a mission to take big band where it's never gone before, New Life, under the direction of 31-year-old Bandleader, Kendrick Oliver, continues to draw reputable peers to be a part of its big band experience. New Life has featured Grammy-Award-Winning Trumpeters Roy Hargrove and Nicholas Payton; Bassist Christian McBride; Vocalists, Kevin Mahogany and Marlena Shaw, Saxophonists Walter Beasley, Kirk Whalum, Miguel Zenon, Bill Pierce and Teodross Avery; pianists Jason Moran, Robert Glasper and Cyrus Chestnut.
New Life’s critically acclaimed debut album, "Welcome to New Life", made Boston Magazine's Hot List and features some of jazz music's hottest young lions; among them: Christian McBride, Jeremy Pelt, Jimmy Greene, Miguel Zenon. Jazz Times calls the album "inventive, vital and fresh…spiritually rousing...gospel-soaked big-band jazz."
